Day 1: Tuesday 31st October, 2017

Arrive in Papua New Guinea

  • Pepeta tour staff will warmly welcome you at Jackson's International Airport, Port Moresby. They will assist with your luggage and transfer to your hotel, the Holiday Inn Express, Port Moresby.

​

Day 2: Wednesday 1st November, 2017

Domestic flight to Alotau

  • Pepeta tour staff will assist with hotel check out and airport transfers.

  • Alotau guesthouse staff will greet you at Alotau airport and transfer you to your guesthouse accommodation.    

  • In the afternoon you will experience a local village tour.​​

Day 3: Thursday 2nd November, 2017

Birdwatching and trip to Kibu Island

  • Today you have the option of a pre-breakfast (5:00am) rainforest hike to see the local bird life, especially the renowned Bird of Paradise. This hike is weather dependent and you will return in time for breakfast.

  • Tropical island half day trip - enjoy a day out on Kibu Island including reef snorkelling, swimming, fishing and a beach BBQ lunch.

  • Return to the guesthouse mid-afternoon to relax and freshen up for dinner.

Day 4: Friday 3rd November, 2017

Nature hike

  • Your local hosts will take you on a nature hike that will take you to two waterfalls, with the potential for sighting of bird of paradise, butterflies, local villages and native orchids.  The total trip duration is around 4 hours and includes lunch at a local village, you are also welcome to swim at the waterfalls.

Day 5: Saturday 4th November, 2017

Attend the Kenu and Kundu Festival day 1

  • Change accommodation to a location in Alotau town, near to the festival.

  • Attend Kenu festival show day 1 with your escorted tour guide.

  • Today you will see the magnificent war canoes (kenu) and traditional kundu drums as well as experience diverse cultural singsings and dances from the local area and other parts of PNG.

Day 6: Sunday 5th November, 2017

Kenu and Kundu Festival day 2

  • Attend Kenu festival show day 2 with your escorted tour guide.

  • Lunch at Alotau International Hotel.

  • Dinner at Driftwood Resort.

Day 7: Monday 6th November, 2017

Flight to Rabaul

  • Travel to Rabaul via Port Moresby, catching two domestic flights.

  • Arrive in Rabaul in the afternoon in time to check in to your resort accommodation before dinner.

Day 8: Tuesday 7th November, 2017

Full day tour of Rabaul/Kokopo region

  • Group tour with experienced local guide: A full day, land tour of Rabaul/Kokopo region visiting some of the sites steeped in the history that has shaped the East New Britain of today. In an airconditioned vehicle you will visit old Rabaul town, learning about WWII history and the devastating 1994 volcanic eruptions before heading into Kokopo, the new town, to experience arguably the best market in PNG and visiting the WWII museum.

  • A highlight of this tour is a hike up Mt Tavurvur volcano, taking around 45 mins each way and including a visit to the hot springs.

  • The tour will stop for lunch at an agreed time.

  • You will return to the resort in time to freshen up for dinner.

Day 9: Wednesday 8thNovember, 2017​

Dolphin swim, Kokopo market

  • A short boat ride will take you to a bay where playful, wild dolphins gather every day. You will be assisted into the water and enjoy an unforgettable experience of swimming with these beautiful animals. The Dolphin swim is also be combined with snorkeling over a Japanese WWII Zero-fighter site, an old Japanese fighter which was shot down during the world war 2.

  • In the afternoon you can take a free shuttle bus from your resort to the renowned Kokopo Market or simply enjoy the free in-house recreational activities such as relax by the swimming pool, feed the fish by the jetty, go for a kayak, or a local canoe ride.

 

Day 10: Thursday 9th November, 2017

Optional activities

  • Optional day tour activities available from the resort, such as:

    • Island trip snorkel/swim (half day/full day option)​

    • ​Simpson harbor/ Bee Hive island cruise.

    • Fishing (full/half day option)

    • Kayaking

    • Diving

    • Village/Island tour (half/full day options)

Day 11: Friday 10th November, 2017

Return to Port Moresby and depart for home

  • An early morning flight to Port Moresby to connect with your return international flight.

  • Pepeta PNG staff will meet you at the airport and assist with transit to the international terminal.

  • After 11 days of experiencing Papua New Guinea with us we will farewell you well with a group breakfast/lunch at a nearby café before you catch your international flight (time permitting).
