Day 1: Thursday 7th September, 2023

Arrive in Papua New Guinea

  • Pepeta tour staff will warmly welcome you at Jackson's International Airport, Port Moresby. They will assist with your luggage and transfer to your hotel, The Holiday Inn Express.

Day 2: Friday 8th September, 2023

Flights to Wewak

  • A morning flight to Wewak.

  • Your tour guide will greet you at Wewak Airport and assist with transfer to your hotel accommodation.

  • Overnight in Wewak.

Day 3: Saturday 9th September, 2023

Travel up the Sepik River

  • An early start for today's long journey.

  • You will travel by 4wd vehicle to the village of Pagwi, where you can learn about the local fresh fruit and vegetables and purchase some for yourself.  

  • Then transfer to a motorised dugout canoe for travel further upstream to your final destination of Wagu village.

  • Dinner at Wagu Guesthouse with local hosts.

  • Optional evening activities, available any evening on request: 

    • Crocodile spotting.

    • Fishing

Day 4: Sunday 10th September, 2023

Sepik River area tour

  • Board the motorised canoe to visit nearby villages. You will be warmly welcomed and the locals will proudly show their traditional ways of life and customs. You will be shown the very special Sepik Haus Tambaran (Spirit house) and hear about the unique ceremonies that occur within. Villagers will also perform a traditional dance for your enjoyment.

  • The Sepik area is also renowned for the skill of its carvers and you will have the opportunity to see and purchase unique, hand made masks and other artefacts.

Day 5: Monday 11th September, 2023

Sepik River area tour

  • Optional morning activity:

    • Early morning (before breakfast) bird watching, experience the local
      birds including the bird of paradise. 

  • Full day ​tour including rainforest hiking and visiting a waterfall for a refreshing swim. 

  • Late afternoon visit to the Heinstein river to experience fishing with the locals.

Day 6: Tuesday 12th September, 2023

Free Day in Wagu Village

  • Today is a free day in Wagu Village, you can choose to rest and relax or talk to your host to do something.

  • Optional day tour: Experience traditional hunting. If you would like to experience how the local men go hunting, this trip will be a great experience for you.

    • Cost:

      • 650K for group of 4 + people

      • 500K for 2 people.

  • Cost include: boat, local guide, site fee, packed lunch

  • The cost for the optional day tour will be payable to your host.

Day 7: Wednesday 13th September, 2023

Travel downstream to Wewak

  • Last chance for early morning bird watching.

  • A full day of travelling by motorised canoe to Pagwi and then vehicle to Wewak.

  • Check in to accommodation at Wewak Boutique Lodge.

Day 8: Thursday 14th September, 2023

Domestic flights to Goroka

  • Early morning flight to Port Moresby and then an afternoon flight to Goroka. Pepeta PNG staff will meet you at the airport and assist with your onward flight to Goroka.

  • Meet and greet by local tour guide and assist with airport transfer to your Goroka lodge accommodation. 

  • If time permits you can visit to Goroka J.K. McCarthy Museum. This visit will give you an opportunity to see the combination of localtribal artifacts, World War 2 Memorabilia and a collection of photographs tracing local history. It gives you a perspective of Goroka then and now.

Day 9: Friday 15th September, 2023

Attend the Goroka Show day 1

  • Attend Goroka show with your Pepeta PNG tour Guide.

  • Today is the big day of experiencing the cultural diversity of Papua New Guinea. The Goroka show is a well-known tribal gathering and cultural event. It is an annual event held during the country’s Independence Day (September,16) in the town of Goroka. Here you will experience the best of over 50 tribal colors who arrive at the show
    ground to display their singsings, music, dance and culture. In recent times, it has become a major attraction for both national and international tourists and remains one of the largest cultural events in Papua New Guinea.

  • Great opportunity for tribal photographs.

Domestic flight to Port Moresby

  • Early afternoon flight to Port Moresby. Pepeta PNG staff will meet you at the airport and assist with transfer to your hotel.

  • Dinner and overnight at Holiday Inn Express hotel.

Day 13: Tuesday 19th September, 2023

Depart for home

  • Depart for International destination.

  • Hotel check-out and airport transfers assisted by Pepeta PNG staff.
