Day 1: Sunday 2023

Arrive in Papua New Guinea

• Pepeta tour staff will warmly welcome you at Jackson's International Airport, Port Moresby. They will assist with your luggage and transfer to your hotel, the Holiday Inn Express, Port Moresby.

Day 2: Monday 2023

Domestic flight to Alotau

• Pepeta tour staff will assist with hotel check out and airport transfers.

• Alotau guesthouse staff will greet you at Alotau airport and transfer you to your guesthouse accommodation, Tree Top Lodge.    

• In the afternoon you will experience a local village tour.

Day 3: Tuesday 2023

Day trip to Kibu Island

• Tropical island day trip - enjoy a day out on Kibu Island including reef snorkelling, swimming, fishing and a beach BBQ lunch. 

• You also have the option of a pre-breakfast (5:00am) rainforest hike to see the local bird life, especially the renowned Bird of Paradise. This hike takes around 30 mins and can be arranged with the guesthouse.

• Return to the guesthouse in time to freshen up for dinner.

Day 4: Wednesday 2023

Optional activities

• Your choice of activities inclduing:

  • Hike to two waterfalls.​

  • Samarai and Kwato Island day trip.

  • Dawadawa river and canoe trip.

  • Snorkelling on a WWII shipwreck.

  • Village/ island tour (half or full day options).

Day 5: Thursday 2023

Transfer to Alotau town

• Change accommodation to Alotau town, a 25 min boat ride from Tree Tops Lodge.

• Afternoon tour of Alotau, visit WWII battle sites and memorials to the historic battle of Milne Bay.

Day 6: Friday 2023

Optional Milne Bay activities

• Your choice of activities inclduing:

  • East Cape Adventure Day Trip.​

  • Kileton Island - Sun and Sand.

  • Island hopping - three islands in one day.

  • Bay Boat Sightseeing, half day morning or afternoon.

  • Bay/river mouth fishing.

• Dinner at Driftwood Resort Hotel.

Day 7: Saturday 2023

Flight to Rabaul

• Travel to Rabaul via Port Moresby, catching two domestic flights.

• Arrive in Rabaul in the afternoon in time to check in to your resort accommodation before dinner.

Day 8: Sunday 2023

Kabiu Hike (Mother Volcano) optional tour

• Rise and shine before the dawn! We depart Kokopo at 5am as it is an hour’s drive to the base of Kabiu. Daylight will have fallen but the temperature is cooler for hiking. At 6am we start the climb and weather dependent, the hike takes 1.5 hours up and the same down. You will want to rest and snack at the lookout where there are breath-taking, panoramic views of Simpson Harbour, Rabaul, Mt Tavurvur – active volcano, Matupit Island and much more! So, we recommend you bring your camera. The path can be muddy and the jungle unclear so comfortable footwear is recommended as is long sleeves and trousers (also for sun protection). If you ask your guide nicely he may disappear into the bush and prepare you a walking stick to aid your climb. Coconut trees are plentiful so we also recommend a stop for a drinking coconut, nature’s finest refreshment!

• A hike that is highly rewarding, well worth doing!!

• There are numerous other activities available from the resort for those not wanting to go on the volcano hike.

  • Rabaul volcano observatory lookout

  • Kayaking

  • Rabaul Raulim Country Club for a refreshing drink

Day 9: Monday 2023

Rabaul/Kokopo optional activities

• Optional activities today include:

  • Half/Full day tour of Rabaul/Kokopo​

  • Dolphin swim

  • Harbour cruise, bee hive island, snorkelling

  • In-house resort activities

  • Land tour with local historian

Day 10: Tuesday 2023

Optional activities

• Optional day tour activities available from the resort, such as:

  • Small Pidgin Island trip snorkel/swim (half day/full day option)​

  • ​Simpson harbor/ Bee Hive island cruise.

  • Scuba Diving or snorkelling

  • Village/Island tour (half/full day options)

Day 11: Wednesday 2023

Return to Port Moresby and depart for home

• An early morning flight to Port Moresby to connect with your return international flight.

• Pepeta PNG staff will meet you at the airport and assist with transit to the international terminal.

• After 11 days of experiencing Papua New Guinea with us we will farewell you well with a group breakfast/lunch at a nearby café before you catch your international flight (time permitting).
