Day 1: Monday 10th July, 2023

Arrive in Papua New Guinea

  • Pepeta tour staff will warmly welcome you at Jackson's International Airport, Port Moresby. They will assist with your luggage and transfer to your hotel, the Holiday Inn Express, Port Moresby.

  • Dinner can be at the hotel or Port Moresby harbourside.

Day 2: Tuesday 11th July, 2023

Domestic flight to Rabaul

  • Your Pepeta tour guide will assist with hotel check out, arrange your airport transfers and check in to your resort accommodation.    

  • The afternoon is yours to do any of the resort activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, fish feeding or visit the Kokopo market.

Day 3: Wednesday 12th July, 2023

Attend the Mask Festival day 1

  • Attend the Mask Festival day 1 with your Pepeta PNG tour guide.

  • The first day of the festival includes the 'Kinavai' - the arrival of the Tolai Tubuans at dawn. To experience this, you will arrive at the venue (Kokopo Beach) at around 6:00 am.

  • Return to the resort for breakfast and then transfer to the Mask Festival venue.

  • Your Pepeta tour guide will escort you to the festival, you will learn about diverse sing sings and traditional costumes. A great opportunity for photographs.

  • Lunch will be taken together at the nearby Gazelle Peninsular Hotel.

  • Return to the resort in time to freshen up for dinner.

  • Evening activity, Baining Fire Dance:

    • Attend Local traditional dancing “Baining Fire dance” from the Baining people of mainland East New Britain.  The night-time traditional dance, gives you a rare opportunity to experience initiated young men perform dances through blazing fires amidst evocative chanting by their elders.​

    • This event is dependent on availability and your tour guide will advise.

Day 4: Thursday 13th July, 2023

Attend the Mask Festival day 2

  • Attend Mask festival show day 2 with your tour guide.

  • Continue to experience the diverse cultures, singsings and dances from the local areas and other parts of PNG.

  • Lunch at Gazelle Peninsular Hotel.

  • Dinner at Rapopo Plantation Resort.

Day 5: Friday 14th July, 2023

Attend the Mask Festival day 3

  • Attend Mask festival show day 3 with your tour guide.

  • Continue to experience the diverse cultures, singsings and dances from the local areas and other parts of PNG.

  • Lunch at Gazelle Peninsular Hotel.

  • Dinner at Rapopo Plantation Resort.

Day 6: Saturday 15th July, 2023

Full day tour of Rabaul/Kokopo region

  • Group tour with experienced local guide: A full day, land tour of Rabaul/Kokopo region visiting some of the sites steeped in the history that has shaped the East New Britain of today. In an airconditioned vehicle you will visit old Rabaul town, learning about WWII history and the devastating 1994 volcanic eruptions before heading into Kokopo, the new town, to experience arguably the best market in PNG and visiting the WWII museum.

  • One of the highlights of this tour will be a 45 minutes hike each way up to the top of Mt Tavurvur, currently the most active volcano in Rabaul. Once on the top the view is spectacular with stunning view of Rabaul township, Simpson Harbour , Matupit Island and the crater view of Tavurvur volcano itself.

  • The tour will stop for lunch at an agreed time.

  • You will return to the resort in time to freshen up for dinner.

Day 7: Sunday 16th July, 2023

Water Activities

  • Dolphin swim and snorkelling at WW2 Japanese Zero fighter.​

    • An experience not to be missed! After a short boat ride you will arrive at a place where the dolphins congregate every day. Your friendly guides will assist you to get in the water with your snorkelling gear and while holding a rope attached to the boat, see these amazing animals swimming playfully alongside you. 

    • Following the dolphin swim you will be taken to the shallow water site where a Japanese Zero fighter was shot down during World War 2. Here you can snorkel in the clear water and view the remains of the crashed plane.

  • In the afternoon you have a free choice of activities including kayaking, snorkeling, swimming in the pool, fish feeding or visit the Kokopo market.

Day 8: Monday 17th July, 2023

Flight to Port Moresby & depart for home

  • An early morning flight back to Port Moresby to meet your international flight home

  • Pepeta staff will meet you at Jackson's International Airport and assist with transfer to your international flight.

  • If time permits a breakfast/lunch at a nearby cafe will be arranged.
